Bob,

I asume what you are refering to is a dye penetrant system for crack
detection. They are offered by many sources, I got mine from Goodson's which
is a mail order supply house for auto machine shops. You can find Goodson's
on the web at www.goodson.com. The dye penetrant system consists of three
spray cans: a cleaner, a dye, and a developer. This system is used industry
wide for checking aluminum heads (magnaflux won't work on non ferris parts)
for cracks. I think the system is effective and you can use it over and over
if you are only using it on small parts like heads and suspension parts (what
else would you use in on?). If you would like more info, there is a company
called "Lock and Stitch" (you can find them on the web at
www.locknstitch.com) in Turlock, Calif. that makes a system for cylinder
block and head crack repair. Lock and Stitch has free video of their process
and the video includes a demonstration of the Dye Penetrant method of crack
detection. You might find that of interest.
