Marty-
Its been a few years since I wondered the same thing, and what I learned
was that, as with anything (read Lloyds of London) you can insure a race
car on the track... but the price of doing so is prohibitive for most... If
I recall I had an estimate to insure my Lotus 23B of something like $20,000
per event... I think the rule of thumb for the kind of racing we do and the
kinds of cars was something like 25% of the value of the car per event. I
also remember, unless I dreamed it, in which case I have to worry about the
quality of my dreams, learning that such insurance is sold to some
professional race teams for whom the loss of a car might be catastrophic to
the business.

What? Is this really me talking about insurance? Yuk!
