SCCA was wise to outlaw wood rimmed wheels. They came to that discussion after a
race at the old Thompson. I was at that race when a car ( I think it was a
Sunbeam Alpine ) had a low speed crash. The driver straight armed the steering
wheel, breaking it, and a sharp piece of wood penetrated his head. An aluminum
sandwich rim would not prevent this from happening. Save those beautiful wood
wheels for the concourse.
