Vintage Racers,
This is an event not to be missed! Last year was great and this year sounds
even better. It's just like "ze ole days" as Burt would say, racing on
airport runways when the fly boys aren't there. Talk about hospitality, we
were treated like officers and VIPs the whole time we were there, salutes and
all!! The drive onto the base is a thrill in itself with all the vintage
fighter jets lined up along the road.
The drive into town for the car show was pretty special also. I've done these
at the Glen and Elkhart Lake, but nothing compared to this one. Why? Cause
the cop leading the procession thought he was racing and I had to hang it out
a couple times just to keep up, YeeHaw!!! A party at the officer's club
sounds pretty neat also. I have fond memories of being a Midshipmen and
chasing Admirals' daughters (Sorry Hank!) around the dance floor at the
O-Clubs on many a Naval Station.
Oh, BTW, there was also some awesome racing on the track, but that didn't
detract from the mild weather, beach front rooms and great parties. Don't
miss this one!
Vroom, vroom,
