Think about this Rick et.al.
When you pull up those 1000 lb lift bars,  what forces are you puting into 
that hitch?  Try connecting the hitch ball and knuckle to the trailer without 
the truck attached to int.  Lift just one of those bars and watch what 
happens.  
Yes they work, they lift the rear of the truck, but they to it by imparting a 
HUGH twisting force to the trailer hitch.  They lift the ball and pull down 
on the forward end of the structure that is welded to the truck.  Poor 
welding will not tolerate that any more than it will the weight of the 
trailer.  You were just lucky that it broke at home and that the forward end 
of that structure could stand the downward force imparted by those lift bars.
