I sent in my entry yesterday for the VARAC Festival at Mosport , June
30-July 2, 2000.
Last years Great McMosport Challenge was a lot of fun, but afterwards, I
realized that it wasn't fair to the fast-small displacement cars that can't
beat a slow FF time, no matter how good the driver of the small-displacement
car is. Also, looking at the entry pack, I see that there will be a large
field of SuperVees, and a big field of Monoposto F70 cars is expected. Any
of those cars can beat my time on three (maybe two, some on one) cylinders.
So for this years Great McMosport Challenge, Vintage Garage will award a
McMosport to every class winner in the Saturday afternoon final qualifying
races, shown as Race 3 in the schedule and to the first 5 SuperVees in the
Race 3 qualifying race. In addition, winners of the prestigious "Car of the
Meet" award, of which there could be several, will win a McMosport. Winners
can collect their McMosport Sunday morning at the track restaurant.
Now here is the challenge part of the Great McMosport Challenge. If
prior years are any indication, most of the McMosports are going to go to
Canadian drivers. They are clearly better drivers than we Americans. We're
going to need a big group of American drivers to overcome the superior skill
of the Canadians.
If you've been to the VARAC festival in years past, I don't need to tell
you to come. I'll see you there. To everyone else who hasn't made it to
Mosport, how about a $200 (US) entry fee, the best track in North America, 3
track sessions every day instead of the usual two, clean Canadian air, great
marshalling, super organization, and the best drivers in vintage racing.
The atmosphere is truly International. If you can win one of the Race 3
qualifying races, you'll have achieved something extraordinary, and you'll
never forget it.. plus, you'll have a McMosport in your belly to make the
weekend complete.
