I'd be pretty wary of running a crank with cracks there. While having the
crank/flywheel/clutch balanced is good, it won't save a cracked crank, nor
will it cause a cracked crank in most cases. Having a flywheel come off
can really screw up the bell housing and input shaft, while having a
flywheel explode (if it's cracked too) will pretty much ruin everything
back there. If it was me I'd put the crank directly in the bin, and find
another one before putting the engine back together. BTW, there's no such
thing as "slight" cracks in cranks, from my experience - I once had to take
four cranks to the crank shop before he found one he'd work on for me -
didn't charge for all the crack testing as he felt sorry for me using up my
entire stock of so called spares!
