I've been using Chev full size pickups for the past four years. First one
wasn't actually a pickup but was a Tahoe, current one is 1997 C1500. Both
are 5.7L automatic trans, and have been pretty much fault free, aside from
crappy brakes.
From what I hear, the latest generation of Ford, Chev, etc, are all pretty
good, and handle much better than earlier versions. Real downside is the
price of the things - with all the toys they cost more than a BMW!
What I'm seriously considering when the lease is up on the current truck,
is going vintage and looking for a nicely restored 1950's/60's truck. I've
seen them in the truck trader magazines for $5K to $10K, with disc brake
front ends and modern V-8 motors. Given the miles that I put on a truck
(under 16K miles in 2.5 years) this could be a bit of fun! Risk is the
quality of someone else's restoration...
Cheers, Brian
