They exist....not sure how "official" they are.  Supposedly Carrol Shelby and 
Colin Chapin had a chat about it over a pint and one got built....could be a 
wives tale???  I suspect some privateer got the idea and just built one.  In 
Southern CA, there are about 3 or 4 V8 Cortina's running around that a group 
of Cortinaisti have put together.  They typically use a Ford 289 or 302, with 
an 8" rear end out of a Mustang II.  They require SUBSTANTIAL reworking of 
the firewall to fit.  They are QUICK, however....at an open track event a 
Willow Springs, one is reported to have passed at GT-40 on the straight!! 
(more wives tales??....still sounds like FUN!!!)
