Contrary to popular opinion, being an old fart is not a prerequite to
being a
vintage racer. I started when I was a mere 26 year old. Mind you, it is
important to keep a very close eye on those old farts because they embrace the
motto "old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill".
I note your proposed 'dual purpose' car is a bugeye. Keep in mind that
some
vintage groups will require that you run the 948cc motor in that car. I
imagine that you would have a hard time being competitive in ITD against
1275cc cars, unless you plan to swap motors for different events.
If you have the time, come on out and check out a vintage race (if you
haven't been to one already). Come to an SVRA event and introduce yourself to
some of the Group 1 folks (small bore production)
