Reuters 4/1/98: Bernie Ecclestone has announced the sale of the FIA to Tony
George, who will incorporate the European series into his Indy Racing League
championship. Future rules changes in store for the Formula One series include
Oldsmobile engines and Dallara/G-Force chassis as used in IRL. Ferrari, due to
its long-standing support of F-1, will be allowed to paint their valve covers
crackle red and speak Italian in the pits (in races held in Europe). George
felt the takeover to be a natural progression for the IRL, as no one in
America has heard of any of the Formula One drivers, either. Formula One teams
will designate which of their drivers will be knocked down by A.J. Foyt at
some time during the season. George paid an undisclosed sum of money plus
tobacco company stocks.
