I thought you all might like to hear from some one who was at the SCCA event
at Sears on Sept 13 - 14 what it was like...First off I was notified about it
at least 6 weeks ahead by post card from Glenn.......Which gave me plenty of
time to make plans to go........I was in the open wheel group and had 2
sessions on Friday, one on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.......There were only
Vintage cars in my group........Playing by vintage rules....Most of the
people were the same folks I race with all the time with CSRG.......The
vintage groups were quite seperate from the "regular " SCCA racers. So even
though it wasn't a "pure " vintage event I had a great time and would do it
again.
I was anticipating a lot of SCCA beauracratic rule, slow registration and
tech hassles; But I was surprised at how smooth and easy it went......They
even had a partial registration on Thursday eve......
If SCCA started adding some Vintage grids to their regional races I would
probably attend based on my expierence at this last one.......It was a pretty
good amount of track time at a real reasonable price........
The one really bad/sad note as most of you probably already know was that one
of the regional racers was killed in an incident in turn 8A......Derek Israel
was 28 years old and was a ITC driver from Oakland...Let's never forget that
what we do is dangerous. Even in Vintage!
