This was sent directly to me, but I thought it would provide good food for
thought for the vintage BB.
To respond completely would take more typing then I am capable of; however
any comparison between the LA Grand Prix and Monaco are ludicrous. The writer
doesn't say if he was at the LA race, I'll bet he wasn't at Monaco ( I wasn't
invited either)
None of us who attended the LA Race were advised when we signed up that the
paddock space would not allow a support vehicle, it was only after we had
been accepted that the space was announced. However, the writer misses my
point on pit space. VARA WAS GREEDY !! If they had limited entries to 200 or
250, there would have been twice the pit space and plenty of room to pass. As
it was, the pace car had to slow as it came around to the track entrance to
allow the back of the pack out on the track.
I thought this issue had been put to bed-- does anyone else have any comments
?

I waited about a month to reply to see if there were any other comments about
your experience at the LA Grand Prix. It struck me that the format of the
race was almost identical to the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique. Each
participant's space in the paddock was a 10 foot by 20 foot rope enclosed
spot, with the tow/support vehicle location almost a mile away. The was
little room for passing. There was no room for error. Yet all the races
were close and hotly contested. Everyone had a great time and would do it
again tomorrow if invited. Was the difference the location? or the
expectations of the participants? or the attitude of the participants? From
your e-mail before the event it was clear you knew about the paddock space.
You knew it was a street race. I am not a supporter of VARA, but it seems
that everyone went to that race with a full understanding of the potential
problems. If so, is it fair to blame the sanctioning body (and blast them on
the internet) for problems that were disclosed and/or apparent before the
event ever began?
