Nitrogen in race tires is not new and is effective in keeping the temperatures consistent, provided you get the pressure right at the beginning. I did the Nurburgring 24 Hour race in 1989 in a Ford Escort and the German Avon distributor thought our compounds were a bit soft so he inflated them with nitrogen...we only changed the fronts once in 24 hours and the rears not at all.
