[ridiculously long forwarding chain snipped]
Folks, for heaven's sake *let this thing die*! Yes, it's true that the
child in question was seriously ill, but HE'S FINE NOW! He wanted to set
the world record for get-well cards, and it's been met. That was several
*years* ago, and he's still getting bags of mail every day!
The Make-A-Wish Foundation has even gone so far as to set up a special
toll-free hotline to tell folks that this needs to stop. All the cards
send to the kid are now forwarded to a recycling plant. That's how bad
it's gotten!
The odd thing is, there was a story in my local paper detailing this very
thing. It might've been on the AP wire, but I don't know...
In short, don't bother with this. The original intention several years
ago was well-meant, and it *did* serve its purpose, but thanks to the
voodoo of chain letters--and ESPECIALLY due to the worldwide
nigh-instantaneousnature of the Internet, it Just. Won't. Die.
C'mon, folks, let it go.
