"The Racing Driver" subtitled "The Theory and Practice of Fast Driving" was
published in the UK in 1958, then released in the US by Robert Bentley in
1969.ISBN 0-8376-0200-9.
Unlike two contemporary classics, Taruffi's "The Technique of Motor Racing"
and Paul Frere's "Sports Car and Competition Driving", Jenks spends less
time on the theory and practice of fast driving, and more on the
psychological aspects. Perhaps the best way to get a flavor for the book is
to list some of the chapters:
Art
Determinatin
"Tenths"
"Moments"
Fright
Instincts
Morale
Retirement
(The quotes are Jenks own!)
and the Dedication:
"Dedicated to the Driver over the Limit (may this book help him recover)
Of the thirteen (!) books I own on racing technique, it's my favorite. It is
out of print, I think, but available from used booksellers and some
bookshops (I got mine at Motorbooks in London).
Happy Holidays!
