That is certainly makes for some very amusing parts of the book-

The Racing Driver
The Theory and Practice of Fast Driving
Denis Jenkinson 1958
(US Publisher Robert Bentley, Inc.)

This book is both entertaining and instructive. Denis spent most of his active
racing as navigator, ranging from motorcycle sidecars to sports cars. He had
the ultimate spectator view of some of the best drivers, observing their skills
up close and personal. His exploits beyond the hairy edge as balast on the
outside of a sidecar are riviting, as are his accounts after spending more than
10,000 miles by the side of Sterling Moss.

Throughout the course of this narative are Jenks observations of what it takes
to "tiger", and be a top notch driver, along with some in depth analysis of
what it takes to get a car around a circuit quickly.

Certainly one of the top period books on racing, it's a must read for any
vintage racing enthusiast, be it for the tales of racing, or a few more
thoughts of what it takes to get the most out of your race car.
