Starting kids out (hell, starting *any* driver out) in a kart makes a whale of a lot of sense. It's very cheap, it teaches the driver a lot about setup and how to drive and race. I wouldn't necessarily say it's safer - I've been karting for a couple of years and am still not comfortable racing without a cage or belt. In a close dice, it's easy to end up on your head in the middle of the track. |
