Well, sometime rumors are true. I got the following letter today:
Dear Member,
This is to let you know that, effective immediately, issuance of new log
books for MG As is temporarily suspended.
In the eight years since it was made eligible, the MG A has become the make
and model making up the largest portion of event entries. There are, at this
writing, more than fifty-five log books issued to MG A owners. Your Board is
concerned that such disproportionate representation may in time affect the
traditional character of the club.
Because of its wide availability and relatively reasonable cost, the MG A
lends itself with relative ease to modifications which stretch, if they do
not violate, the originality principles of the VSCCA. Certainly, many
log-booked MG As do not use such modifications, but the Board believes it
is contrary to the founding spirit and best interests of the VSCCA to foster
the formation of a large class of competition prepared cars of a single make
and model. This moratorium will give the club a chance to pause and evaluate
in an orderly manner where the making eligible of the MG A has gotten us and
where it may take us in the future.
In taking this action, the Board fully understands that the MG As are not
the only cars presenting difficulties in the conduct of our events. They
are, however, the largest group and it is this fact that has led us to
address the issue at this time.
Yous sincerely,
Gilbert L. Steward Jr.
