We=E2=80=99ve tried that in the past; used to be stations across the countr=
y would have =E2=80=9Cfull service=E2=80=9D pumps and =E2=80=9Cself service=
=E2=80=9D pumps with perhaps only 5 to 10 cents difference in price.
Some quick assumptions show an average cost (to the owner) of roughly $.10 =
or $.15/gallon (assuming an attendant pumps all gas sold, etc), so it proba=
bly wasn=E2=80=99t a ripoff.
Never seemed worth the price, to me; I almost always used the self service =
pumps. I=E2=80=99m guessing that=E2=80=99s what the station owners saw as =
well, since I haven=E2=80=99t seen a full service pump in a long time (outs=
ide of Oregon, where it=E2=80=99s required by law).
