I've never used anything else except a piece of hose and me lug'ole.
When I did my apprenticeship at Jaguar in the early 60's I well remember all
the guys in engine assembly, final finish road test and the Service
Department used the same kit on triple SU XK engines. One of the older hands
was stone deaf but he used to lick the end of his thumb, hold it over the
air intake and judge the 'coldness' of the air passing over it. Every engine
he did idled perfectly and throttle response was brilliant. The other guy in
Road Test was the 'ace' for duff ignition systems. He was a Jamaican on the
car wash and whenever a car had an ignition prob, he'd take off his rubber
boots, wet the soles of his feet, spit on both hands and grab plug bodies
and HT leads to verify which wasn't working as it should. He was rarely
wrong, even though he had rather too many epileptic seizures to drive a car.
Am I surprised???????????????

I have used a piece of 1/2" plastic tubing and my left ear for nigh on 50

I am using a dial type. I bought it after the bubble set I had got broken
in a shop move. I find the dial type to be a little bit more fiddly because
the gauges want to "bounce" more than the liquid sticks. The dial set came
with dampers on each gauge to reduce the bounce, but you have to adjust them
individually. Either type works, I feel like the durability of the gauge
style will be a little bit better.

I lent my old trusty bubble type carb sychronizer to another and he returned
it saying it did not work -- well, he returned part of it. Looks like he
ran it over or crushed it. He said that's how he got it. nuff said. no
more help or lending tools to him.
Sooooooo, I need to buy a new one. There are other types out there now --
dial type and bubble types.
Any type better? I would figure less obstruction is better, but other than
that don't know.
not trying to start any trouble -- just want to hear from the collective
wisdom and I'll sort out the feedback for myself.
Thanks in advance.
