I bought a NAPA 791-6420 3.5 ton steel jack about 8 years ago for =
about $300. It never quite worked right, always acting as if it had lost =
its pump prime. Seal kits are no longer available for it but I did find =
that a simple o-ring in the pump was worn. A replacement o-ring, =
industry size 204, has made a world of difference, but the way the pump =
is designed, it is just a matter of time before that o-ring wears out. =
There is too much side play in the pump piston. Another example of China =
design. Very disappointing. I like my NAPA store since they are locally =
owned and are excellent with farm and truck related parts but I =
won=E2=80=99t buy another one of their jacks. Years ago, their American =
made =E2=80=9CFleet=E2=80=9D brand of hydraulic jacks were excellent. =
Time marches on.

Subject: [TR] hydraulic jack recommendadtions
=20
After 16 years of good use my Sears 3 Ton jack is given me problems.
=20
The handle which is used to raise and lower the car also, if rotated ,is =
used to open and close a valve. through a gear mechanism Unfortunately, =
the gear mechanism has locked up.
=20
If I remove one of the gears, can can manually close and open the valve =
by hand, This works OK, but if I have the jack under the car, this =
involves me going under the car too. Something I don't want to do.
=20
So I'm on the hunt for a new jack. I'd like something light, but I need =
about 2 tons. I have Stag.
Any recommendations?
