If the Lucas won't charge during idle then I should probably
consider a better alternator such as a tiny Denso off a
Daihatsu or whatever.
Japanese cars are very much in the majority here, AC Delco's
would probably be very hard to source from a car wrecker and
almost certainly quite pricey new.
I will have to price up a Delco.
If I upgraded the wiring for a better alternator than a
Lucas, I assume that if I want to keep the ammeter going I
would have to double up the brown/yellow wire between the
alternator and the control box then also double up the
brown/ white wire between the control box to ammeter and
then from ammeter to solenoid. As well as put in a shunt on
the ammeter as per Randall.
