It will stop when you replace the head gasket.
You have coolant wondering around along the head gasket past the ridges
that are supposed to keep the coolant restrained. When you have the
head off be sure to check the top of the block for being level. Could
have some puckering up at the head bolt holes.
You indicated that you didn't think the head bolts had ever been
loosened before. Might be a very good time to get a valve job with
hardened valve seats and the head resurfaced if needed.
And since the rocker arms will be off, remove a couple rockers to check
the bushing. Since new bushings need to be machined if it needs doing,
this would be a good time to do it.
And while the push rods are out, roll each one on a flat surface to
verify that they are still straight. My TR3 had 2 bent ones plus one
with a hairline crack in the top cup when I bought the car. I've always
wondered what was done to the engine to cause that.
