As I recall, it just twists and pulls out. There is a bit of a barb but
the rubber bushing does all the sealing. Of course, the rubber may have lost
some of its resiliance over the years and this may make removal a problem.
Maybe some penetrating oil will help.
I changed mine out but that was 15 - 20 years ago.
