I could be mistaken, but I believe the reversing light was not standard on
TR4, at least not early ones. They became required for the US market at
some point, but not until 1965 I believe (which would be TR4A).
The operating switch goes in the transmission top cover. See illustration

(That's a TR6 illustration, but the location is the same.)
Should have a green wire supplying power, and a green/brown to the lamp.
