I'd say this is a bit restrictive, for there is third path. Many
originialty-violating things one might do to the car are for
reliability, not necessarily for performance in the traditional sense
of the word. For example, one might install different seats for
comfort, a gearbox swap, or alternator swap. One might say they are
for performance but only if one extends the definition of
performance.
