Sounds interesting Bob: I think I will make this upgrade too. Is it
possible that the original rubber mounting was not for road vibration,
but rather for softening hand impact from hitting a curb?
Cheers,

Subject: [TR] Solid steering mount summary
Thanks to all who replied to my inquiry about solid steering mounts.
The consensus of experience is that the solid mounts cause very little
or
no increase in the transfer of road vibration and very noticeably
improved
steering response. The Goodparts solid mount was recommended over any
other
available and John Mitchell recommended that I use an Allen head socket,
not
an Allen wrench, to get the torque required to properly tighten down the
mounts.
Once again thanks to Al, John, Greg Aaron, Paul, Bill, Bob and Darrell.
