OK, guys I wanted to wait for a reply from my tech guy about this
control arm stuff, because it had gotten a little farfetched and I am
not that familiar with them:
> Randall is correct, as is our catalog listing. The idea that: "In
> order to make the set part #661-020 has to be used for both. One has
> to be flipped over to make the set, and this is what I have on the
> right side of my car." is totally wrong. We have one, but not the
> other, and they are not interchangeable at all, in any fashion, by any
> stretch of the imagination. They were not designed to be nor can they
> be "flipped over" to fit each other's location.
> The comment about Moss quality in regard to these is wrong - the only
> ones we have ever stocked are/were original new old factory stock. We
> currently have 661-020 R/H rear, L/H front (TR# 132632) - original
> factory parts. (Yes, we do have a few -admittedly very few- original
> factory parts for TR2-4!) When these are gone, there will be no more.
> The other one, 661-010 R/H front, L/H rear (TR# 132633) is no longer
> available. As far as I know, these parts are not being reproduced by
> anyone anywhere.
> For the nit-pickers (of which I am one), the original part numbers
> listed for TR2-3 were 100695 and 100696. These early ones were not
> completely boxed in on the bottom (and are, therfore, not as durable)
> as the later ones for the early TR4. The factory superceded these in
> July, 1962 (ref. Spare Parts Catalogue 501653 4th edition Accumulative
> Ammendment No. 3). Thus, theoretically, very late TR3Bs would
> probably have the strengthened version, while the earliest TR4s most
> likely had the original weaker ones.
> TR4 retained this style until they changed to 3 degree castor, when
> they went to what is commonly referred to as the "TR6" type.
