> Many thanks Randall for all that important information. It occurs to me that part of it was incorrect. There should not be oil against the joint formed by the bearing housing, backing plate and axle (the one held together by the 6 bolts). That cavity should only have grease in it (from the zerk that lubes the wheel bearing). So, if what was leaking was definitely gear oil (as opposed to oil that separated from the grease), the inner seal is still likely bad.
