Just one question, Jeffrey.  Is the center conductor metal, or carbon ?
It's been my experience that "carbon" core wires do not last well with the
piercing screws in the stock TR2-4 cap.   The screw doesn't make a good
connection to the core, and the resulting heat at that point degrades the
core over time.  Mine only lasted about a year of being driven every day.

My suggestion if you want to run carbon wires is to convert to one of the
caps with standard push-in connectors, like from a MGB.
