Listerati:

The original coil on my '62 TR gave up after ONLY 43 years of service last year.
(Can Lucas really be that bad?) The wires were the ones that came with the car
in '98, so I figured, what tha' hell. I'll change those too.

I had a recent Summit catalog and a $25 credit, so I ordered a bright yellow
Accel coil, a universal external ballast resistor, and a universal Accel spark
plug wire set for V8 engine....also bright yellow.

I've seen these same bits at car parts stores from time to time.

The wires are very nice 7mm silicone units with a good 90 degree boot on it. I
just cut to length and stuck them in the top of the dizzy cap and secured them
with the factory 'needle screws'. The boots were already fixed to the other
end. I didn't have to crimp anything.

The coil and ballast mounted in the original location on the block with no
problems.

Result: Works great.

My dizzy is still stock: vac advance, points, condenser, etc.

The coil and ballast were something like $35 and the wire set another $25. I had
the other half of the wire set left over which I gave to another LBC friend.
(They worked well for him too)

I don't know that this setup is any better or cheaper than a Lucas Sport Coil
and a set of bumble-bees, but the ignition works well all the way through
redline and I get positive comments on the bright yellow wires.
