[TR] battery box liner essential?

Today I was discouraged, but not surprised, to find my new metal
battery box filled with rainwater (even though a tarp was covering the
TR3).  Hopefully, an intact bonnet will completely fix this problem in
the near future.  Or is it worthwhile to 'bite the bullet' and go
ahead and buy a battery-box plastic liner?  I am guessing that nothing
else will do the trick- right?  Moss or Vicky Brit-right?
