STP oil additive is the best fluff for a rebuilt engine that will stand after rebuild. That is possibly why someone has suggested gear oil. It is sticky and will stay in the journals and piston rings until use. Another is Chainsaw chain oil. A lot cheaper than STP, it does not smell like cat pee, and it works! Someone, years ago, suggested grease, not a good idea. Ask some one who knows!!!! Say no more!
