I'll second the dremel/grinder approach. Get a piece of foam to sit on as
you will be there a while!!!
I used a grinder and measured often with a pair of calipers to make sure I
did not go through the side. It's not hard, just a little tedious.
Don't get overly agressive if you use a grinder...The gap is so narrow
between the sleeve and the pin that it is not always noticible when you go
through.
I managed to make a small nick in one of mine. I polished it vs leaving it
rough and all seems to still be ok after several years.
