Are we supposed to ignore the particular choice of words? Are
you a frequent distributor of these witticism?

Uh, Jim, how long have you been on this list? I'd have thought you
would know me by now. ;-)

If the points show good spark, you can rule out bad wiring or
connectors. Sounds like the condensor. It may be shorting,
which could account for the warm coil too, no?

Pretty much what I was thinking, although certainly the rotor bears
further scrutiny as well.
Meanwhile, thank to all for your suggestions. If it does turn out to be
a bad condensor, it will be the first one I can recall experiencing in
all these years (too many, really). I've no idea how old the various
bits are, so I don't know if either rotor or condensor might be of the
"bad batches" of same that have appeared in recent years. Maybe I'll
just dig around and find another REALLY old one.... ;-)

--Andy Mace, still "plugging" away at the problem... (OK, I'll stop
now!)
*Mrs Irrelevant: Oh, is it a jet?
*Man: Well, no ... It's not so much of a jet, it's more your, er,
Triumph Herald engine with wings.
