I have the original Darex sharpener ( pencil type ) , works great and well
worth the $ 100 for the 3/32 to 1/2 inch sharpener. A 1/2 to 3/4 mandrel will
add around $ 40. Extra grinding wheels are 20.
Just think of the time you will save when a bit breaks in the middle of a
project and you can repoint it in 3 minutes. Sharp bits are the best tools in
the world. With broken bits it is a good idea to rough the drill in with a
regular grinder first.
If you use the split point setting, you must do the second grinding for the
bit to work otherwise it won't cut. I just grind a normal point and that works
great.
When drilling 5/16 and up holes, use a 1/8" pop rivet bit to drill a pilot
hole. Even with a bit change it will be much faster than just drilling a 1/2"
hole from the start.
