Oh list:
Seeing all the interchange about thermostats brings up an issue I've been
ignoring for too long. What's the best way to test the coolant temperture in a
TR6? I bought a candy thermometer (stick with a dial on the end) but have never
done the job before. I want to find out if my TR6's engine or temperature gauge
is low. My gauge never seems to get above 1/4 and lately it's less than that,
but the cabin heater is nice and hot and I have an electronic voltage
stabiliser that makes the fuel gauge dead accurate. Trying to determine which
component is wrong.

BTW this morning I installed my new Moss old-style sleeved thermostat
while I was removing the radiator -- and attempting to remove the fan
hub assembly. I removed the previous thermostat, a sleeved thermostat
from XK Unlimited with the welded on sleeve. Looks like the welded-on
sleeve had broken off and jammed into the thermostat, which probably
explains why my TR4 has been so slow to get up to operating temperature
over the last year. That broken thermostat was probably 2 years old.
