IMO not all cars got this treatment... my TR4 is very original and 
certainly doesn't have it.  Unfortunately, I see that the TRA guidelines 
unequivocally state that all covers had the material on them so if you 
are serious about concours I guess you will need it.

I suppose you could whip some up out of silicone sealer dyed or painted 
a dirty grey (the kind that dries but stays flexible, possibly brand 
name 'Alex').  The key is getting the right look.  I recall John 
Macartney (former Triumph employee) describing it as "looking like it 
was applied with a wooden spoon by someone wearing a blindfold".
