I did some checking about the modern thermostat converted to use a skirt. I
got it last year from Moss. I am not positive of the part #. They got it from
XKs Unlimited. The same design works for some of the older XKs. Moss does
not seem to list this 'stat any longer. So, I checked XKS Unlimited. THis is
a link to their 'stat. It is listed as a 160 degree, but I thought it was a
165 on my 'stat. Not that 5 degrees means anything. This 'stat with my
original sender in my 4A gives a mid-range reading during the summer. In the
winter, it reads just above 1/3 (which is evidently around 160 degrees, and in
the worst of the summer never exceeds 2/3 which I found by testing to be about
180 degrees.

This is a "high flow" Robert Shaw 'stat with a skirt spot welded in place.
While the movement is reversed from the motion of the bellows type, it has
sufficient travel to occlude the outflow port properly. It feels very
substantial, and has a fairly large outlet hole when open, and it also lacks
the bellows restrictng the orifice. It should flow better tand cool better han
new standard non-skirted types and better than the old style bellows skirted
type.
