Hi Don:
Any chance the DPO connected the positive wire of the guage to the +12V source
instead of the output of the Voltage stabilizer. If the original VS died, they
might have done this to restore the reading. The VS reduces the power to a 10V
DC average by generating a square waves from contact closure. If you give it
+12V then the gauge will read quite incorrectly and the range will be wrong.
I've only ever seen the VS fail to no output, but I suppose it could have
rusted with the contacts closed and give full +12 volts continously too.
I bought an electronic VS from the Internet and replace my aged original unit.
Lovely accurate readings ever since.
Cheers,
Mark

Subject: TR6 fuel gauge reading high
After running out of gas for the second time I figure it's time to
tackle the fuel gauge in my 72 TR6. Empty still reads between an eighth
and a quarter. Half full reads full. This is a recent phenomenon. Can
this be dirty grounds or what?
All replies received with thanks.
Cheers
Don
