If it helps in this debate, the factory did it this way.
Reading 1: Cold and wet - with oil in the sump before engine was driven for
approx 15 mins thru the flywheel with all the plugs out
Reading 2: Cold and wet - after engine had been driven for approx 15 mins
thru the flywheel
Reading 3: Hot - the last test after the engine had run under its own power
on the driven test cradle and before being passed off Engine Assembly to
Production - or not.
The 'or not' element was when any of the readings varied by more than 10% on
any one cylinder. Not too many got thrown out.
