I believe it goes to the alternator, with some versions of the alternator.  It's
a remote sensing line for the internal regulator.  Only some versions of the
alternator had the sense input, so if yours lacks it, just insulate and tie back
the (now unused) wire.

But since it's not shown on Dan's schematics, perhaps I'm mistaken.
