Bad idea.  If you are planning on filling the space between the pipe and the 
opening the screening will transmit the noise and vibration from the pipe to 
the frame and increase the ambient noise as a result.

The pipe should be attached to a bracket at the rear of the transmission.  
This attachment coupled with the attachment at the exhaust manifold make for a 
vary stable mount.  As long as the original alignment had the pipe in the 
center of the opening and as long as the engine mounts hold up there should be 
no 
problems.
