I originally asked this question of the list on Friday afternoon. After
sending it, my hard drive started to make funny sounds so I spent the
afternoon backing up data not already backed up. Shortly thereafter my hard
drive crashed. So I spent Friday - Sunday afternoon rebuilding my PC and
loading programs. I finally got around to checking my mail earlier this
afternoon and was shocked to find dozens and dozens of emails about the
VTR's web site being restricted. Within an hour of my question hitting the
list I had a response from Blake Discher explaining to logic behind the
decision. As far as I'm concerned VTR and its board can make any decision
they want relative to how their "business" is run. That's why they have a
Board of Directors.
I was a little surprised by Blake's comments relative to my VTR membership,
especially with him being the VP of Member Services. Yes I was a VTR member
and yes I did contribute a lot of pictures and links from my web site, but
I'm no longer a member. If VTR has another National Convention in my general
area, I'll rejoin so that I can attend. It has nothing to do with VTR.I'm
just not a "joiner". I drive my TR thousands of miles a year for pure
pleasure and only attend a few local shows. If I need help, I turn to the
list, articles at various Triumph Club web sites or friends to keep my car
running. I've also contributed to Mark's Fat Chance Garage in the past and
realize that it's time to contribute again. We need to make sure this mail
list survives.
I really can't add much to what's already been said but I sincerely hope
that VTR and its Board respond to the List and its concern over this
decision. Many list members have mentioned the "elitist" attitude of VTR. I
personally have never experienced this, but a lack of response will show me
that there may be a "holier then thou" attitude within the
organization....or worse yet a F@#K the Mail List" attitude.
In the meantime people can respond by asking for their articles to be
removed from the VTR site or by canceling their membership. I hope it
doesn't come to that and I hope that VTR reconsiders a bad decision from
both a business and Public Relations standpoint. I would also be glad to
host a maintenance section on my web site. If you have an article you want
posted just email it to me.

When/why did VTR.org decide to restrict the maintenance section to members
only? Did the people who wrote these articles know that distribution was
going to be restricted and not available to everyone? I'm just curious for
the rationale behind it.
