Back a few years ago I remember reading an interview with this guy when he
hit the 2,000,000 mile mark and he's basically a car driving "nut". He'd
think nothing of driving 1000 miles over a weekend just for the joy of
driving. To him, 1000 miles is like 100 to the rest of us. At the time Volvo
wanted to retire the car to their museum but he wanted to just keep driving
it....which he has. I wish I could remember more of the article as he went
in to his maintenance schedule as well as what's been rebuilt or replaced.
As I recall he also kept a very detailed log book of mileage and
maintenance. Maybe if I hit the right Google combination I can find the
article.

So what was it like in those covered wagons, Fred ?
In fact, when Irv bought his P1800 in 1966, we already had roughly half of
today's super highway system ... 20,000 miles in 1965 compared to some
43,000 miles today.

And, speed limits were higher then, and traffic much less. When I learned
to drive (ca 1970) "the Interstate" was 80 and 85 mph ... I don't know of
anywhere in the country where it's that high today.
