Here's an idea... perhaps one can take a late TR4 temp gauge, remove the
ring, glass and faceplate -- and substitute the faceplate and curved
glass from the TR3 style temp gauge. I'll confess I have never opened
up a temp gauge so I don't know if this is feasible. I have opened up
electric gauges (e.g. the fuel gauge) and removal and refitting of the
face is straight-forward on those. It does require some slight bending
outward of the needle but with care the needle is easily bent back into
the correct plane.
Anyone tried this sort of swap? Is the capillary tube type gauge face
removable same as other gauges?
The plus in this is that the TR4 gauges are plentiful, cheap and often
go w/o bids on eBay:
