Hi Jim,
Not confusing at all when you realize that Triumph used a single series
of frame numbers from Spotfire Number 1 in 1962 through the last one
made in 1980. This includes all the GT6's that were produced.
Based on the particular number, I would say that it is likely the frame
that came with the body and commission numbers you have. It is just
abovet the midpoint of the number of cars that were built and that would
put it in that time frame (pardon the pun).
Except for looking at the particulars of the frame itself, you will not
b e able to tell which car it originally came on. I don't even know if
the BMIHT has records pertaining to the frame numbers, but it would be
interesting to find out.

Hi List,
I've taken the "project plunge" again and picked up a Spit6. I'm trying
to figure out what went into the conversion. Here are the numbers I
have found:
Commission # (ID tag and windscreen tag) -FM6842U-'73 Spitfire
Body # - 7979FM
Engine # - CC59218F-Early TR6? ( 150 CD SZ carbs)
This is the confusing one...Chassis # (found on the frame) - FC172921
>From the listings I have, FC on the frame is an early Spitfire. Yet, I
see no evidence of the radiator being moved up for the conversion. The
frame is clean where the radiator would have been on a Spit frame. Rear
suspension is non-rotoflex.
Any ideas on what frame this is and any good ways to tell if it's from a
Spit or a GT6?
