Hi,
I have a 68 GT6 and I am trying to rebuild the Stromberg carbs. It
seems that these particular carbs -#3172 were just on the 68 GT6s that
started having some emission controls. I bought a rebuild kit from
TRF - it seemed to have all the parts that I need except the washer at
the top of the jet. There were several washers in the kit but none of
them were the right size.
I tried buying the washers at Victoria British since it is close
(#3-5435). They have the right o.d. but the i.d. is too small. The
jets have a bushing at the top that kind of looks like 2 top hats.
Anyone know where I can get the right washers?
Also, I inserted the new metering needle and it wouldn't go in quite far
enough and I can't get it back out. I have tried spraying carb
cleaner, WD-40 and Kroil both around the base of the needle and through
the set screw hole. It is still too tight to pull out. I don't want
try pliers yet as I know I would mess up the needle. Does anyone have
any secret for getting these out without ruining the needle?
Thanks,
Roger Elliott
