No idea how good the finished products are, but look at:

The next question is do you want to adapt a specific wheel or do you want
larger wheels in general? There are oval track steel wheel makers that offer
many widths, bolt patterns and back spacing custom of off the shelf.
If you are going from a 4 bolt to a 4 bolt or a 5 bolt to a 5 bolt, there is
enough material to make a strong adapter from steel ( aluminum or diecast
adapters can't even be considered ) . Going from 4 bolt to 5 or back causes
problems as one stud is usually in the way and requires a offset bolt. This
offset
causes a huge bending load and is pure folly.
Wheel adapters add unsprung weight to the car and are sometimes not legal for
racing or road use. Porsche has used bolt on wheel adapters for years on
production based race cars, the aftermarket supplies up to a 3" spacing, but
just
as a rear engine car isn't optimal, wheel spacers are not also.
There are spacers that adapt dual wheels to a single wheel truck
Be aware, many of these wheels are lug centric and not necessarily hub
centric. Balancing will require bolting a plate to the lugs so the wheel is
center
on the machine. ( most/all tire stores have this plate but be sure to call
out it's use on the work order)
